Gammelgårdsberget

The mighty Gammelgårdsberget, with its steep mountain slopes, precipices and vertical walls, is home to a really old spruce forest.

The spruces growing on the slopes and the top of Gammelgårdsberget are up to 300 years old. Pines several hundred years old can also be found in amongst the ancient spruce forest. The bare, rocky ground provides a habitat many thick, low pines that are also several hundred years old.

There is plenty of dead wood in the reserve, both upright and lying on the ground, from various tree species. Several rare and red-listed species that are dependent on an environment like this have been found in the area.
