Description

This is a legendary site at Nöttja church in Ljungby, Småland.

When the church bell was being cast, the metal was melting in the furnace. Just before the casting, a woman came running and threw her silver belongings into the molten mass.

The silver had been stolen by her family, and she now offered it to the church to save her soul.

The bell was cast, but the story says that her action had consequences. The person responsible for the casting suffered misfortune, and the bell’s tone was never like that of other bells.

The story reflects themes of guilt, faith, and redemption connected to the church setting.

The site is part of the Land of Legends in Småland (Ljungby, Alvesta and Älmhult), where many legends are linked to real churches and villages and recognized by UNESCO.

The Museum of Legends in Ljungby gathers such stories and provides deeper insight into their meaning and context.

The site is located in a village environment and is easily accessible by road or bicycle.
