Gammplatsen

At Gammplatsen, in the heart of Lycksele, you can see mighty 400-500 year-old pines. Park at Skogsmuseet (the “Forest Museum”) in Gammplatsen and walk between the old buildings out to the nature reserve. A path leads you around between these mighty trees.

Environments such as this are extremely rare. A pine forest that floods at regular intervals and that is rich in nutrients is not common. Almost 500 different insect species have been found in the reserve. This nutrient-rich area was grazed during the 19th century, which has no doubt contributed to the unusually rich fauna.
